KAREN HU

STUDENT RESEARCHER

Karen Hu is a music educator, choral conductor, and singer based in Milton, Ontario. They recently completed a Bachelor of Music with Honours in Voice Performance at Western University. As an avid choral artist, Karen has performed in various choral ensembles across the country including the National Youth Choir of Canada, Western University Singers, the Ontario Youth Choir, the Ellison Canadian Honour Choir, and Modern Sound Collective. In addition to their role within the community, Karen currently serves on Choral Canada’s Student Chapter Executive Committee. Karen is the recipient of the Ken Fleet Choral Conducting Scholarship (2025) and Deral Johnson Legacy Award in Choral Music Conducting (2023) and holds Levels One, Two, and Three Kodály Certifications from Western University. As a conductor, Karen has previously participated in Exultate Chamber Singers’ apprentice conductor program, and is the assistant conductor of Bach Children’s Chorus Choir I and Preparatory Chorus Rehearsal Assistant with VIVA Singers Toronto.

MARK RAMSAY

FACULTY SUPERVISOR

Dr. Mark Ramsay is Assistant Professor in Music Education and Coordinator of Choral Activities at the Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University. In addition to his teaching duties at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, he is the conductor of Western University Singers. He is also the artistic director of Toronto’s award-winning Exultate Chamber Singers and recently co-chaired PODIUM 2022, Canada’s national choral conference and festival. He frequently appears as a guest conductor, adjudicator, and clinician.

Western University's Undergraduate Summer Research Internship (USRI):

 

This research and resource is part of Western University’s Undergraduate Summer Research Internship (USRI). The USRI program offers undergraduate students the opportunity to collaborate with faculty mentors across various programs and disciplines in an effort to allow students to engage in research opportunities. 


Upon completion of the USRI program, all students and advisors will engage in a culminating virtual conference to present and showcase their research findings.
